Add Canonbie to your Itinerary

Gilnockie Tower, near Canonbie.

Canonbie is a village on the River Esk, six miles from Langholm and two miles from the border with England.

Canonbie was immortalised in Sir Walter Scott’s poem ‘Marmion’ and nearby is the 16th century Gilnockie Tower which is a fine example of a reiver’s tower house. With its setting by the River Esk, Canonbie is popular with anglers who are drawn to the excellent salmon and sea trout fishing. Just 2 miles from the Border with England, along the A7, the village has a general store and Post Office.
