Towns & Villages

Carstairs is a small village situated four miles east of Lanark.

Carstairs was an important junction on the Romans’ military routes and the site of a Roman fort can be found just a mile south east of the village. The Parish church has an intriguing crucifixion stone dating from the 15th century. Carstairs is the location for the State Hospital for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
