Towns & Villages

The village of Charlestown is found on the Fife coast, 2 miles south west of Dunfermline,

Created by Charles Bruce, the 5th Earl of Elgin, the industrial town of Charlestown was built in the 1750s in the layout of his initials.

Throughout its history, Charlestown was heavily involved in iron, coal and limestone industries, and today you can visit the Scottish Lime Centre to find out more about this village’s fascinating past. A visitor exhibition can be found at the Charelstown Workshops, which explains the social and economic history of Charlestown’s limestone heritage.
