Overview

Forres is a pretty town in Moray with a classic castle and flowers everywhere.

The award-winning, flower-filled parks and gardens of Forres make it a welcoming stopping-off point.

Attractions here include the Falconer Museum, the fine views from the Nelson Tower on Cluny Hill and Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery, Built in 1898, this museum and visitor centre is a perfectly preserved time capsule of the distiller's art where you can see and hear how whisky was made and sample a free dram. Also worth investigating is the remarkable 20-foot-high 'Sueno's Stone'. This giant Pictish slab commemorates a battle between the inhabitants of Moray and Norse settlers from Orkney, with carvings illustrating the story.

Four miles west of Forres is 16th century Brodie Castle which has gorgeous grounds, again blooming with flowers in season.

South of the town, the River Findhorn meanders through an area of great natural beauty with several appealing picnic spots to let you stop and smell the roses.
