This sandy beach is found some distance from the town area of Fraserburgh itself, and adjacent to the waters of Philorth Local Nature Reserve (LNR).

Philorth is a popular recreational, surfing and windsurfing area with car parking facilities. The LNR is home to a small area of salt marsh and a sand pit, and attracts a variety of wildlife including wildfowl and seabirds.
