Inverkip

Overview

The small coastal village of Inverkip lies at the mouth of the River Kip, 6 miles south west of Greenock and some 30 miles from Glasgow.

Until the mid 19th century, Inverkip relied on argirculture, fishing and smuggling but with the coming of the Glasgow - Wemyss Bay railway, it became a popular seaside resort. Since the 1970s and with the opening of its marina, it has become known as a yachting centre, servicing the busy sailing fraternity on the Firth of Clyde.
