Towns & Villages

Johnstone is a town in Renfrewshire and is situated 3 miles west of its main neighbour Paisley.

The town of Johnstone was a planned community, created in the 18th century by the local laird, George Ludovic Houston who held an estate, the remains of which are known as Johnstone Castle. Coal mining, thread making and cotton weaving ensured Johnstone grew and today it is very much a commuter settlement for Paisley and Glasgow. The town’s Houston Square has a bandstand and fountain which were gifted by the laird.
