Overview

The town of Kilwinning lies at the mouth of the River Garnock, five miles south of Ardrossan and three miles north of Irvine on the North Ayrshire coast.

The town dates back to the 8th century, when St. Winning founded a church here. There is a ruined 12th century abbey here.
