Towns & Villages

Letham is the largest village in Angus (situated 17 miles from Dundee) and was established in the 18th century, initially to provide homes for farm workers and latterly for textile workers living and working in the area.

The nearby Dunnichen Hill witnessed one of the most decisive battles of Scottish history. In 685, at the Battle of Dunnichen (or Nechtansmere as it is also known), the Picts decisively halted the northward expansion of the Northumbrians and in doing so, some historians argue, they laid the foundations for an independent Scottish nation.

Letham's Victorian market, held in early July, is a highlight of the summer and is enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.  Stall-holders must wear Victorian dress and can sell anything from antiques  and crafts to roast-boar!
