Letham

Overview

Letham, the largest village in Angus, was established in the 18th century, initially to provide homes for farm workers, and latterly for textile workers, living and working in the area.

The nearby Dunnichen Hill witnessed one of the most decisive battles of Scottish history. In 685, at the Battle of Dunnichen (or Nechtansmere as it's also known), the Picts decisively halted the northward expansion of the Northumbrians and in doing so, some historians argue, they laid the foundations for an independent Scottish nation.

Letham's Victorian Market is a summer highlight.
