The name Monamenach derives from the Scots Gaelic word for 'Middle Hill'.
As the lilting Gaelic name suggests, this hill lies mid-way between Glenshee and Glen Isla with the favoured starting point for a climb being at the head of Glen Isla. It's a rounded heathery hill of 807 m, with character in the form of crags on the Glen Isla side. From the summit there are good views down into the glens and northwards towards the high mountains of Glenshee.
