Towns & Villages

Ochiltree is a village on the A70 road in East Ayrshire, 4.5 miles (7 km) west of Cumnock.

One of the oldest villages in the area, artefacts have been found to suggest there were settlers here in the Stone Age and Bronze Age. Ochiltree’s main street is lined with charming single storey cottages. A former cottage here was the setting for The House with the Green Shutters, the famous novel by George Douglas Brown, who grew up in the village.
