Patna

Towns & Villages

Patna, named after the Indian city of Patna, is a village in East Ayrshire 45 miles (72 km) south west of Glasgow.

In 1802, William Fullarton of Skeldon started mining coal in his estate. After houses were built for the workers, Fullarton decided to name the hamlet ‘Patna’ as his father worked for the British East India Company.

Patna is located alongside the River Doon which is very popular with anglers. Patna Golf Course is a charming 9-hole course and there are plenty of walks in the surrounding area. There’s also a library, doctors and some shops.
