The Glen Lyon Corbetts

Overview

Glen Lyon is justly described as the "longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland" and it boasts many superb physical assets including an exciting mix of seven Corbetts.

Beinn Dearg (`red hill`) and Cam Chreag (`crooked crag`) are two rounded hills on the north side of the glen close to Innerwick.

In the wild upper reaches of the glen, near to Loch Lyon and Loch an Daimh, lie Meall nan Subh (`Hill of the Soo` (Raspberry), Meall Buidhe (`Yellow Hill`) and Sron a' Choire Cnapanaich (`Nose of the Knobbly Corrie`). Worth climbing for their wonderfully colourful names and to simply experience this remote hill country.

Meall nan Maigheach (`Hill of the Hares`) and Beinn nan Oighreagh (`Cloudberry Hill`) are tucked in behind Ben Lawers and the Tarmachan Ridge and can easily be tackled in the same day, starting from a point on the Loch Tay to Glen Lyon hill road. Historically, Beinn nan Oighreagh would have seen many drovers, cattle and weary travellers make the journey through the nearby Lairig Breisleich, the most direct pass from Bridge of Balgie in Glen Lyon to Killin. Old descriptions refer to the pass as a "villainous bog" - yet it is a route of ascent used by many hillwalkers today!
