Kirkwall Youth Hostel (SYHA)

Old Scapa Road, Kirkwall, Orkney, KW15 1BB

A friendly and welcoming youth hostel close to the historic town of Kirkwall and beautiful 12th-century St Magnus Cathedral.

Kirkwall Youth Hostel is in a quiet location, a 15 minute walk from Kirkwall town centre and Scapa Beach, and only 10 minutes from the local shops. It's the perfect base to explore all that Orkney has to offer, whether you stay on the mainland or decide to go island-hopping!

The youth hostel is a popular choice with groups, individuals and families looking for budget accommodation. There are good facilities including family and private rooms, a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, a large drying room and laundry facilities.

Orkney is a neolithic treasure trove, and Kirkwall Youth Hostel is a superb base for exploring its historic sites. Many attractions, like Skara Brae, Maes Howe and The Ring of Brodgar, are within walking distance from the youth hostel, or only a short drive away.

Apart from stunning scenery and a treasure of Neolithic and Viking heritage, Orkney offers a wealth of festivals: from the big ones like the Orkney Folk Festival in May and the St Magnus Festival in June, to the internationally acclaimed Science Festival in September, and the more intimate Storytelling Festival in October.

Year round there is an abundance of wildlife to watch, from seals to whales, and from otters to thousands of seabirds. Come early or late in the season, and you may very well be able to see the Northern Lights!
