Rich with abundant foliage, towering trees and hidden rivers and waterfalls, our forests are enchanting, peaceful places, ideal for a leisurely walk or cycle. But they also provide the perfect setting for more thrilling activities. When in Scotland, why not see our forests from a different angle on a tree top adventure?

Not for the fainthearted, aerial assault courses are usually positioned tens of metres above the ground and involve you having to navigate ropes, swaying bridges and stepping stones, nets and swings. Most courses are suitable for both teenagers and adults but there are also a few smaller courses. At Landmark Forest Adventure Park in Carrbridge, the Highlands, the Tarzan Trail is designed for those as small as 1.1 m and is closer to the forest floor than the 7 metre-high Ropeworx high wire challenge course.

Go Ape! have three magical locations in Scotland at Glentress Forest near Peebles in the Scottish Borders, Aberfoyle in the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and Crathes Castle in Aberdeenshire. At these sites you’ll take on rope courses and fly across forests on some of the longest zip wires in the UK. In Glentress Forest, put your fears to one side and experience the incredibly high zip wire which crosses a reservoir; it's bound to make your jaw drop.

You’ll also find you can challenge yourself on indoor aerial assault courses. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA) is the largest of its kind in Europe and is home to an assault course suspended 30 metres above the main climbing arena. It’s a real test of balance, nerve and your head for heights.
