Quad biking is the perfect way to combine taking in the great outdoors with a few thrills and, usually, a good helping of mud. Explore difficult terrains and dirt tracks of woodlands, hills, farmlands and mountains on an exhilarating ride as the engine noisy growls and revs.

It’s a great activity for the family to try. Most quad treks are suitable for children aged 12 and over, and some places, such as Quadmania near Dunoon in Argyll, have smaller quads and safe enclosures suitable for younger children.

There’s many amazing activity centres across Scotland where you can head off-road on a quad through a range of environments. At the Alvie & Dalraddy Estates in the Highlands, head cross country on open moorland and along forestry tracks to the banks of the River Spey. In Moray, go on a quad biking trip with the team at The Loft in Kinloss where you’ll find 388 acres of beautiful countryside to ramble across.

You’ll find that there are great opportunities to see wildlife, such as deer and buzzards, on your trek, so keep your eyes open (but always on the track!).
