The spectacular Eyemouth Golf Club is the only coastal 18-hole course in the Borders and offers some of the most exhilarating and scenic holes in Scotland. Test your golfing prowess on the course’s famous 6th hole - once voted Britain’s most extraordinary golf hole. Affectionately known as ‘Ah-still-No Ken’, this challenging par 3 extends across a vast gully with the waves of the North Sea crashing below.
Further west, the tranquil 9-hole parkland course at St Boswells sits on the south bank of the River Tweed. Enjoy a pleasant game with the peaceful sound of the river’s steady flow in the background. You might even catch a glimpse of anglers landing their catch between shots.
West Linton Golf Course is another fine 18-hole course, situated on Slipperfield Moor. It features wonderful views of the Borders countryside and is dominated by Mendick Hill to the south west. Many top professionals have graced its turf including British Open and US Masters winner Sandy Lyle.
Tee off on the immaculate fairways of the Roxburghe and take a moment to absorb the truly breathtaking view from the top of the Viaduct, an elevated tee that looks down on the magnificent River Teviot and a 14-arched railway bridge. It is easy to understand why this is a favourite course of former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance.
Cardrona is another of the region’s championship courses offering a mixture of parkland and woodland. Labelled ‘the Gleneagles of the South’ with a stunning setting in the Tweed Valley, you can relax in the hotel spa after a fulfilling day of golf, or if you are still feeling energetic, make use of the swimming pool, sauna and gym.
Each of these golf courses is covered in the Freedom of the Fairways Golf Passport meaning you can take full advantage of great value golf. No less than 21 courses are included in this excellent initiative, with three day and five day passes available to visiting golfers.
