Make your way to the Scottish Borders where you can enjoy a relaxing round of golf. With championship-standard venues, impressive hidden gems and one of Britain’s most extraordinary golf holes, the Scottish Borders offer golfers fantastic value for money.

The spectacular Eyemouth Golf Club is the only coastal 18-hole course in the Borders and offers some of the most exhilarating and scenic holes in Scotland. Test your golfing prowess on the course’s famous 6th hole - once voted Britain’s most extraordinary golf hole. Affectionately known as ‘Ah-still-No Ken’, this challenging par 3 extends across a vast gully with the waves of the North Sea crashing below.

Further inland, tee off on the immaculate fairways of the The Roxburghe in Kelso and take a moment to absorb the truly breathtaking view from the top of 'the Viaduct', an elevated tee that looks down on the magnificent River Teviot and a 14-arched railway bridge. It is easy to understand why this is a favourite course of former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance.

The Roxburghe was the work of Dave Thomas, who also designed the course at the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa. Located near Peebles, under an hour’s drive from The Roxburghe, Cardrona offers a rigorous examination of a player’s skills in a unique setting. The championship course offers a mixture of parkland and woodland. Labelled ‘the Gleneagles of the South’ with a stunning setting in the Tweed Valley, you can relax in the hotel spa after a fulfilling day of golf, or if you are still feeling energetic, make use of the swimming pool, sauna and gym.

For a shorter challenge, the tranquil 9-hole parkland course at St Boswells sits on the south bank of the River Tweed. Enjoy a pleasant game with the peaceful sound of the river’s steady flow in the background. You might even catch a glimpse of anglers landing their catch between shots.

Head north west to West Linton Golf Course, another fine 18-hole course which is situated on Slipperfield Moor. It features wonderful views of the Borders countryside and is dominated by Mendick Hill to the south west. Many top professionals have graced its turf including British Open and US Masters winner Sandy Lyle.

When booking your accommodation remember to look out for the Golfers Welcome scheme. They accredit accommodation providers that offer dedicated golf facilities like secure club storage, weather updates and details of local golf suppliers.

With a proud tradition of horse riding, some fabulous foodie experiences and some truly magnificent scenery, the Scottish Borders is a real gem for combining golf with memorable experiences.
