The Scottish Open is one of the biggest events on the European Tour and is a key date in the Scottish golfing calendar. This year, the tournament moves east from previous host Castle Stuart Golf Links, near Inverness, to Aberdeenshire.

The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open will take place on 10 – 13 July at the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club and, as ever, has attracted an impressive field of competitors to its brand new venue. Some of the world's leading golfers will be in action on the classic Balgownie links with this year’s prize money totalling £3m. World No 4 and defending champion Phil Mickelson will return to the tournament with hopes to defend his title.

Two-time major winner, Rory McIlroy will also be among the stellar cast, alongside World No 3 and 2013 Open Championship runner-up Henrik Stenson and former World No 1 Luke Donald.

Royal Aberdeen Golf Club was founded in 1780 and is claimed to be the 6th oldest course in the world. Steeped in tradition, it has previously hosted the 2005 Senior Open and the 2011 Walker Cup.

The Scottish Open is usually staged a week before The Open Championship, which this year will be held at the Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) in England on 13 – 17 July.
