Ayrshire & Arran is an ideal destination for those who enjoy horse riding. The leafy forest trails, wind-blown beaches and old bridle paths through the countryside make for an exhilarating day out. Many of the trails have stunning views and remember to keep a keen eye to spot some of the abundant local wildlife such as red deer, otters and golden eagles.

Horse riding is a great way to relax and unwind in Ayrshire and Arran. There are a number riding schools and stables with horses for hire so you can gallop across deserted beaches and follow old bridle paths through wooded valleys. Along with tuition from qualified instructors they offer a wide range of riding opportunities, including short 1-hour trips to longer treks and hacks.

A pony trekking exhibition is a perfect way to explore the gorgeous Isle of Arran. The Cairnhouse Riding Centre in Blackwaterfoot and North Sannox Pony Trekking each offer everything from pony rides for toddlers to guided walks for inexperienced riders.

Back on the mainland there are a number of horse riding routes to follow which are suitable for all abilities. There is also a lovely bridle path through Fullarton Estate. Both Blackstone Clydesdales and Woodside Equestrian Centre provide horse riding expeditions for children into the surrounding hilly woodland with a professional instructor.
