Scotland is Europe’s 'adventure capital' and the beautiful winter weather lends itself perfectly to a range of snowsports. Each of the five unique and exceptional ski resorts are within easy reach of the major cities and offer various green, blue, red and black runs down some of Scotland’s grandest mountains.
Whether you’re hitting the slopes for the first time, or see yourself as a bit of a James Bond figure, each resort caters for all abilities and has ski schools to help you on your way.
The Nevis Range lies just 7 miles north of Fort William and offers wonderful skiing and snowboarding at altitudes of up to 1,190 m (3,900 ft) into late spring. The ascending mountain gondola, the only one of its kind in Britain, takes you up 2,150 ft where you can access the predominantly wide and open runs. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, experts will love the extensive off-piste black and red runs, while intermediates should check out the blue and red runs in the main Snowgoose bowl.
Glencoe Mountain was Scotland’s first ski resort and opened its ski lift more than 50 years ago. Set among 200 hectares of natural beauty, there are seven lifts and 19 runs which cater for skiers, boarders and many other snow-based activities.
CairnGorm Mountain is Scotland’s most popular resort and is home to Scotland’s only funicular railway. Explore over 30 km of wide runs that include six blue runs, eight red runs and one immense black run.
The Lecht is located in the eastern Cairngorms, 2,000 ft above sea level. Although it is the smallest and most compact ski centre of the five, it actually has the most consistent snow and boasts 18 incredible pisted runs of varied terrain.
Glenshee Ski Centre is the largest in the UK and boasts 36 runs, 21 lifts and tows that extend across four mountains and three valleys. This wonderful centre boasts a modern and distinctively Alpine feel, the perfect location for snowsport enthusiasts of all abilities.
