Doune Castle near Stirling is a magnificent 14th century courtyard castle with an intriguing movie connection. Scenes from Monty Python and the Holy Grail were filmed at Doune and the castle’s audio tour is narrated by Python member Terry Jones.

Callendar House in Falkirk is one of Scotland’s finest baronial mansions and is where Mary Queen of Scots spent much of her early life. Watch costumed interpreters recreate daily routines from the past and sample authentic dishes in the Georgian Kitchen.

Tour Stirling Old Town Jail, condemned as Britain’s worst jail in the 1840s due to overcrowding and disease. Meet the prison warden, the hangman and the convict determined to escape.

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park has lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants and a whole lot else. Take the boat trip to Chimp Island and catch the sea lion show. With an adventure playground as well, Blair Drummond represents a great family day out.

The David Marshall Lodge Visitor Centre near Aberfoyle is a great starting point for exploring the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and is also where you’ll find the Go Ape! treetop adventure course with its high wires, zip wires and ladders.
