In recent years Glasgow & The Clyde Valley has hosted some incredible world-class events, including the XX Commonwealth Games and the 2014 MTV European Music Awards. The vibrant region continues to please throngs of people, both big and small, with its combination of high profile sporting tournaments, legendary music scene and cultural festivals, making up an exciting year-round programme of events.

A UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow is thought to host around 130 music events each week, and  proudly boasts both state-of-the-art and iconic venues, from the SSE Hydro to the Barrowland Ballroom. Every January, music fans can choose from over 300 events at Celtic Connections, the largest winter music festival of its kind.

February sees three Glasgow festivals cover all genres of film, while in March you can laugh yourself silly at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

The Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art is one of the UK’s boldest visual arts events. It kicks off in April and takes place in venues across the city.  You can also enjoy the best of Scottish and international writers in April at Aye Write!

Discover music, theatre and dance at the West End Festival in June or enjoy an exciting programme of unique and innovative performances, including world premieres, at the Merchant City Festival in July.

In August, enjoy fine sounds and scenes of Scottish tradition at the much-anticipated World Pipe Band Championships on Glasgow Green.

The Clyde Valley also has a number of one-day events and festivals, including the much-loved Highland games. Why not try something different at the Strathaven Balloon Festival or the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival?

In October 2015, The Turner Prize, one of the world's most prestigious awards for contemporary art, comes to the Tramway. In the same month Glasgow will attract some of the best athletes in the world to the World Gymnastics Championships 2015 for nine days of gripping sporting action.

In winter, see the city light up during the festivities of Glasgow Loves Christmas, and join in with many wonderful events for families.
