Flora & Fauna in June

If you're wildlife spotting in June you'll be spoiled for choice! Scotland is visited at this time of year by the huge and impressive basking shark, minke whales serenly passing through our waters, colorful puffins return to rocky outcrops and islands, not to mention dolphins, osprey, several species of eagle and more!

In Scotland's rivers you might catch a glimpse of Atlantic salmon making their way upstream to spawn, all the way back to the spot where they themselves were born. Adult salmon can be seen making spectacular jumps up waterfalls throughout the summer.

On your way around the country you'll find the glens and hillsides covered in heather and the coasts will be beautifully and vibrantly colored by the machair, delicate coastal meadows unique to this part of Europe.
