Why not visit the Spirit of Speyside Festival which takes place in the middle of ‘Malt Whisky Country’. During this festival a number of events are held in the Speyside, the region where the highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland can be found on the banks of the River Spey. Over the long weekend, join special distillery tours, visit pretty towns, enjoy drams at energetic ceilidhs and explore the great outdoors.
You can sample local flavours, take part in a master class and sometimes you might even get to visit distilleries usually closed to the public. It is the ideal way to discover your favourite malt.
In May you can also attend Fèis Ìle - The Islay Festival of Malt and Music. This week-long event starts on the last weekend of May each year and is a great way to discover the peaty, smoky flavours from the distilleries on the Isles of Islay and neighbouring Jura. Each distillery holds its own open day, where you will find special events as well as traditional music, ceilidhs and outdoor events taking place throughout the week.
World Whisky Day is a worldwide celebration of Scotland’s national drink. With the next taking place on 17 May 2014, pubs, bars, restaurants and distilleries across the country and beyond will be holding events themed around uisge beatha, the Gaelic word for whisky which means, ‘the water of life.’
