Ever wondered what it’d be like to be alone in the wild? The latest video from the Wilderness Episodes, a project of short films created by outdoor adventure company Wilderness Scotland, might just give you a bit of insight into what it really means to be ‘away from it all’.
This beautifully crafted film, my personal favourite in the series so far, shows a group of travellers venturing into the wild land of Assynt in the north west of Scotland.
Assynt is part of the ancient precipitous landscapes which make up the North West Highlands Geopark, a remarkable, rugged wilderness largely unchanged for millions of years and home to some of the oldest rocks in the world.
This particular group explore the vast lochs and lochans in canoes, taking in the dramatic scenery of sprawling plateaus and grand mountains. As part of this trip, which lasts several days, the group camps on a tiny remote island with the most spectacular outlook – a contender for the most beautiful wild camping spot ever?
Look out for the brave soul who decides to tackle the wild straight on, diving straight into an icy loch wearing only his underwear. Literally breathtaking!
You can’t help but be inspired by this film – it’s certainly got me day dreaming about escaping to the far corners of Scotland. Why not find out more about Wilderness Scotland’s guided adventure trips, or check out the other videos in the series so far?
