British rock legend Ozzy Osbourne is to be honoured with the Global Icon Award. Antipodean exports 5 Seconds of Summer will battle it out against British stalwarts One Direction in the Best Pop Category while their ardent fans take part in a Twitter face-off in the Biggest Fans category. Katy Perry leads the race this year with seven nominations and will once again lock horns with her old rival Taylor Swift in the Best Female and Best Look categories.

Hip-hop queens Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea will compete in the categories for Best Hip Hop and Best look while, hot on the heels of his third British No 1 this year, DJ extraordinaire and Dumfries-native Calvin Harris has unsurprisingly picked up nominations in the Best Electronic and Best UK & Ireland Act categories.

Voting is now open for all categories at, including local award categories around the world, of which an astonishing 19 million fan votes chose this year’s wild card nominees.

Voting will close on 8 November at 11:59pm CEST. For updates on tickets and the low-down on everything else, follow @mtvema and @eventscotnews on Twitter.

Ticket information:

Calling all music fans! MTV are looking for 2,000 of the most enthusiastic fans 16 and over who want to be at the 2014 MTV EMA…and maybe even on camera!

From 10:00 – 20:00 on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November, the MTV EMA team will be at The SSE Hydro, scouting for eager music lovers. Each hopeful will get 60 seconds to prove to a panel of judges why they deserve a spot at the show. This once-in-a-lifetime experience could involve being a part of the MTV EMA Red Carpet and getting close-up views of performances by Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, and tons more!

Taking inspiration from the ‘time machine’ theme of this year’s show, fans (or groups of up to 10 friends and family members) will show off their creativity, positivity, personality, and imagination to a panel of judges that includes Capital Radio DJ Garry Spence. To be in with a chance of being selected, entrants must:

* Attend the MTV EMA casting (either on Saturday 1 November or Sunday 2 November from 10:00 –20:00 CET)
* Be over 16 and able to show photo ID (e.g. driver’s licence or passport)
* Be dynamic, confident and effervescent – with a clear love of a wide variety of music
* Be happy to follow clear instructions
* Be happy to be filmed by MTV

Think you’ve got what it takes to jump in the time machine and have the time of your life? Then mark your calendar for the 2014 MTV EMA casting call!
