Grab your boots, kids! There’s a new (and free!) mobile game available on iTunes and Google Play! Habitat The Game, designed for young animal lovers and budding eco warriors aged 7 to 12, teaches children about environmental sustainability in a fun and accessible way. There’s even a reward for visiting the home of Nessie, Scotland’s world-famous Loch Ness Monster!
VisitScotland has teamed up with Habitat to help create virtual ‘pins’ which can be obtained by visiting various locations in Scotland. Players that visit these real-world locations are rewarded with a pin (showing a local animal, plant or place) that they can trade with other players that have pins unique to other countries around the world such as Australia, USA and New Zealand.
In this digital age, it can often be difficult to resist the glowing screens of our various mobile devices (I know that feeling well!). Habitat allows children to play the game by completing various real-life ‘missions’ (such as recycling, turning off lights or visiting real-world locations) rather than being glued to the screen. It’s educational, eco-friendly and fun… what’s not to love!
With 21 unique pins to collect throughout Scotland, there’s plenty of exploring to be had. Pick up a Highland cow in Inverness, catch the Northern Lights in Orkney or find the giant pandas at Edinburgh Zoo. Think you can collect them all?
