Covid 19
We were delighted to have been open last summer. At the moment we do not know when we will be allowed to re-open but we hope it will be in time for the summer. Please read more about what we are doing to keep things safe for you, for us and the community of Skye.
- We are a member of the Association of Scottish Self Caterers. They have been advising us throughout this difficult period and they have also been acting on our behalf with the Scottish Government and indeed have been advising the government as well.
- Teresa has also under taken an online training course to assist in this process.
- In line with the advice of ASSC we have undertaken a Risk Assessment of the property with regard to Covid 19. If you wish to see this risk assessment, please get in touch. It should be noted that we undertake a risk assessment generally on a regular basis. Any problems or issues, please let us know.
- We have fully trained our cleaning staff in light of the present guidance, and will be continually re-assessing and retraining.
- As a consequence of the above, and in order to protect you, our cleaning staff and ourselves, we have undertaken an enhanced cleaning regime followed by a disinfection of the property (checklist on the notice board).
- Due to this increased work load we are required to ask you to:
-
- Please advise us if you are feeling unwell in advance of your holiday:- a fever, a cough or the loss or change to your sense of taste or smell.
- Arrive later and leave sooner, 5pm and 10am respectively. Indeed if you can arrive a day later or leave a day sooner, that would be very helpful.
- Wash your hands with sanitiser found at the front door, every time you enter the property
- The potential for infection is still here on the Isle of Skye and is a concern for the whole population. So while you are here please act responsibly and do not put yourself or islanders at risk. Remember to bring face coverings, gloves and/or hand sanitiser.
- Strip your beds before you leave and put bedding and towels into the bags provided.
- Empty bins appropriately and please put any glass/bottles in the banks at Fairy Bridge as you leave Waternish.
- Advise us immediately if you feel unwell (as above) during the fourteen days of leaving the property.
AULD ORWELL COTTAGE
It is on an elevated position with fantastic views of Lochbay, the Minch and over to the Western Isles. The cottage offers a comfortable dwelling on one floor with 1 double and 1 twin rooms, a kitchen diner and lounge with all the modern conveniences.
A self-catering home from home on Waternish, the place to be on the Isle of Skye. From its elevated position over Lochbay, Auld Orwell overlooks the pretty fishing village of Stein and beyond, to unforgettable views and dramatic sunsets across the Minch to the Outer Isles of the Hebrides. The location is one of a handful of dark sky zones in the UK - perfect for aurora hunters and star gazing.
A unique, deceptively spacious, traditional stone cottage (a former croft) offering 4* comfort in flexible accommodation for 2 - 6 people. Recent sympathetic restoration has provided all the benefits of modern living whilst retaining the historic character of the original croft cottage.
The cottage can sleep up to 6 people in comfort. The accommodation comprises one double bedroom, a twin room and a further bedroom which can be either double or twin. There are two bathrooms.
There is a large open plan sitting/dining room with comfortable sofa, chairs and window seats. There is an open fire. The kitchen is equipped with a gas oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing-machine and a large fridge/freezer. All cooking ustensils, crockery & glassware are provided. There is a separate hallway area for coats, wellies, shoes and muddy walking boots!
The rental includes full central heating, linen, towels, a complimentary basket of logs and kindling plus a bucket of coal for the open fire, satellite TV, DVD and wi-fi.
Outside there is a lawn with table and chairs where you can sit and soak up the peace and in the evenings watch stunning sunsets.
Auld Orwell is suitable for guests with disabilities (one bedroom is downstairs as is one bathroom) and you can find details of our facilities on the website link below.
The local village of Stein was originally an eighteenth century fishing village and today is home to the oldest inn on Skye (the Stein Inn) which serves real ale, a wide variety of whiskies and fresh fish and seafood as well as a range of other dishes. There is also a small craft shop and a celebrated seafood restaurant in Stein. There is also a dive centre offering boat trips (seal watching on the small islands in the bay or more adventurous forays for those with an appetite for exploring further afield!). Dunvegan Castle, the ancient ancestral seat of the clan MacLeod, is about ¼ hour drive away and Dunevagan itself has local shops, a garage, bakery, restaurant (enjoyed by many of our guests) and several cafes.
The Isle of Skye is a haven for wild-life and there are a wide variety of stunning walks as well as art and craft enterprises and places of historic interest to explore .
