WORDPLAY PRESENTS SHETLAND NOIR:
Next summer, Wordplay will return to Mareel with a very special festival for 2023. SHETLAND NOIR will run over 4 days in June, with a programme packed full of internationally known writer events, workshops, panel discussions and outings. We will explore bringing in other elements to the programme, broadening from a literature base to include film, music, live performance, as well as other "noir" related content.
We are delighted to announce award-winning crime-writer and creator of the world-famous Jimmy Perez Shetland novels Ann Cleeves OBE as Patron of SHETLAND NOIR 2023. Ann will be supported in her role by Shetland’s own Marsali Taylor.
“I'm delighted to be involved with Shetland Noir. I can't wait to bring crime readers and writers together in these beautiful islands to celebrate all things noir.” (Ann Cleeves).
The first three of the headline guests will include:
VAL MCDERMID – Dubbed the Queen of Crime, Val McDermid has sold over 17 million books to date across the globe and is translated into more than 40 languages.
ELLY GRIFFITHS – Winner of the 2020 Edgar Allan Poe award for her novel _THE STRANGER DIARIES._ Elly is the author of best-selling detective series featuring Ruth Galloway.
MARTIN EDWARDS – Longest-serving Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association and winner of the Diamond Dagger award from Crime Writers’ Association in 2020 for a lifetime contribution to crime writing
We will soon be announcing a further three headline guests to complete the line-up.
A limited number of Early Bird Noir Cards (£70) are on sale now, full price tickets/passes will start from January 1, 2023 and tickets for individual events will be available later in the year when the full programme is announced.
_Please Note: if you are travelling to Shetland please ensure there is travel and accommodation available before you book your card as these can fill up very quickly. Shetland Noir is based in Mareel, in Lerwick, there is accommodation available within Lerwick and there are options in surrounding villages within an easy drive of Lerwick (car hire is available but we also advise booking in advance).
