On show you will find objects salvaged from the German High Seas Fleet scuttled in Scapa Flow in 1919, together with information on Orkney’s role in both World Wars; find out about Orkney’s strong links with Canada and the Arctic; explore Orkney’s maritime past, and revel in the quality ship and maritime models. There is a wealth of natural history in the upstairs Victorian Natural History Gallery, with extensive bird collections complemented by displays of eggs, fossils, sea creatures, mammals, butterflies and moths. Orcadians have always been adventurers, so there is an equally large collection of artefacts collected by these travellers taken home to Orkney.
There are also children’s activities and a photographic archive.
