Thirlestane Castle nestles in the hills of the beautiful Scottish Borders just 35 minutes south of Edinburgh in the charming town of Lauder.
The castle was originally a great stone keep but over the years became a grand ducal palace and then a grand country mansion. It is the ancient seat of the Earls and Duke of Lauderdale, and today it continues to be the Maitland family home.

Guided tours of the castle led by expert local guides are also available from 2nd of May-September (booking recommended), Tuesday-Sunday from 10:30am - 3:30pm. All guests will be invited to enjoy a complimentary cup of tea and a treat with their guide once the tour is complete.
Thirlestane has a world class, public events calendar, featuring showstoppers such as the BVAC Classic Car Show and their Afternoon Teas.
The Castle is also available to hire for your own event including private dining and staff away days. It is also the perfect fairytale castle for your exclusive use wedding day.
