Glamis

In the village of Glamis (pronounced 'glahms') Glamis Gallery has an eclectic collection of Angus and Scottish art and craft - from cards and textiles to oil paintings and sculptures. There is the Bothy Experience situated on Kirk Wynd, an award winning local gin tasting company who have well informed staff and a mini museum of bothy life in years gone by and the traditional method and plants used to create various gins. There is also a village shop which has a cafe and a fabulous meal and accommodation can be had at the Strathmore Arms, once an old coaching inn.

Approaching Glamis Castle down the long sweeping main drive, a riot of turrets, towers and conical roofs appear fantastically at the end of the stunning avenue of trees, framed by the Grampian Mountains. The castle was the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and birthplace of her second daughter, Princess Margaret. This is arguably one of Scotland's most romantic fairytale castles. It features a Victorian kitchen where a traditional 'Glamis Bridie' can be enjoyed as well as a range of soups and home-baking.

Glamis castle is open as always, grounds only in mid winter at weekends and the castle in spring - autumn all week (can vary) There is free parking for 40 cars in the main car park.
