On the outskirts of Drymen, situated in the heart of leafy Buchanan Castle Estate, Strathendrick House is a substantial 4 bedroom cottage which sleeps 9 people comfortably. Simple yet sophisticated, old but modern, it really is a haven of peace and tranquillity. The house offers a vast garden with private access to the river. Dominated by an enormous fir, and surrounded by mature trees and an orchard, we ensure utter seclusion and privacy. Do watch our video and read our reviews on TripAdvisor.
The village of Drymen is charming. Local amenities include several fine pubs all serving traditional hot and cold food, a supermarket, a bank, a local butcher, a gallery and gift shop, and a well stocked library for books, CD’s and DVD’s. There are a variety of events including regular ceilidhs, agricultural shows and dances throughout the year. If you’re lucky to visit when the hotel in the village square is throwing a traditional Scottish dance night the experience is particularly exiting.
The village also offers a private leisure complex with swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. It also offers 2 squash courts and the latest in gym and fitness equipment. All the facilities are available with good rates to guests of the house.
You can also choose between the historic town of Stirling with its famous castle, battlefields and monuments or Glasgow, The City of Culture and Entertainment. It’s a shoppers’ paradise, second only to London for sheer volume and variety. It’s also very stylish, with funky bars, boutique restaurants and vibrant nightlife. Taxis are abundant if you fancy making a night of it. Both cities are less than 30 minutes by car.
Quite simply our delightful home has something to offer everyone.
Situated in Scotland’s first national park with Loch Lomond and the mountain of Ben Lomond close by, the area is staggeringly beautiful. A huge variety of outdoor activities are literally on your doorstep.

Master Living Room
A railway sleeper coffee table is situated in the middle of the room to serve drinks, coffee or simply use for newspapers and reading material. After all you need somewhere quiet to sit and relax. The room has direct access through the French doors to the main gardens and the garden dining area. The garden furniture, designed by the Italian manufacturer “Emu” is FAB! 6 chairs and a table are provided but there is room around the table for substantially more people if you need. The cobblestone patio really is a great location to have an al fresco party!
Cosy Snug
It’s thoroughly atmospheric either in summer when burning low, remember this is Scotland! or as the centre piece to the room during a blustery, wet, wintery night. We’ve also installed a large Flat Screen TV and DVD with remote control and access to all Satellite Channels. There’s a large and very comfortable sofa, a relaxing armchair and an occasional chair situated by the fire. Walnut and glass drinks cabinets sit in each corner of the room. If you can’t relax here then there is something seriously wrong!
Dining Room
With the fire set low, this can also be used in summer for effect buy creating a lovely glow to the room, remembering again….this is Scotland! However in winter with the winds howling or the snow falling, open up the vents, light the candles and this stove can help create an incredible dining experience. The walnut dining table is “quite unique” and can accommodate up to 10 when fully extended. There are 10 antique Queen Elizabeth chairs to seat all should the need arise.
Communal Bathroom
It contains a claw footed free-standing bath. A bit posh! A shower is located in the bath however the shower is only supplied to rinse hair and help wash the kids. It is not to be used as a stand alone shower as there is no glass splash back provided. A porcelain basin and antique WC are also fitted.
Utility room
Washer dryer, Ceiling mounted clothes horse, Utility sink. Great for storing muddy boots and wet jackets. Spiral wrought iron staircase. This is the link between the playroom to the 1st floor at the rear of the house which reduces the walk through the ground floor to access the main stairs.
Masterbedroom / Ensuite
With a Black Watch tartan carpet throughout, the bedroom adds to the Scottish experience. There is also a King-sized Cherry Sleigh Bed and of course the ubiquitous French Doors to the Juliet Balcony. The elevated views to the gardens and river from this room are the best in the house! Master bedroom en-suite oversized (1.5M) glass showering cubicle with a large chrome, ceiling mounted shower head. The showering space is huge. Modern, wall mounted porcelain wash hand basin WC . This en suite is really modern and allows plenty of space to set out all your personal bits.
Guest Bedroom 1 / Ensuite
This huge guest space is finished in chocolate and beige and creates a warm modern feel to compliment the wall colours. We’ve fitted a soft cream carpet throughout this room. We’ve installed an oversized panelled double bed, matching bedside tables, a matching 5 drawer tall boy and a chest of drawers. Storing your clothes and personal effects won’t be a problem! . With masses of light, this room also benefits from French Doors and a Juliet Balcony to view the garden. Guest bedroom en-suite. Again we’ve fitted an oversized glass showering cubicle. Everyone loves the extra space. This shower room arguably boasts the best shower in the house. It really does blast it out! Built in porcelain wash basin with oodles of shelving, a WC and a fully fitted cream carpet to match the bedroom.
Guest Bedroom 2
This is the twin room of the house. The twin beds make this room ideal as the 2nd guest bedroom or an ideal room for the kids. Storage is provided by matching chest of drawers and a tall boy.The colour scheme is white and lilac stripes. The room has a view across the driveway to the woods and the bridge used when entering the property and is extremely light and airy with the morning sun.
Guest Bedroom 3
This room is the only single room to our house . Originally our eldest daughter’s room, the bedroom is soft white with an eclectic mix of painted multi coloured spots, She painted the spots herself, fortunately rather well! A single white wrought iron bed . A Built in hanging space and a stand alone storage unit are also available. Distributing the contents from your case of all your clothes and personal effects will not create a storage issue in this room either. There is also a portable TV.
Playroom / 5 Bedroom
Our children alway make full use of the very large games room. It’s the first room they run too when we come home. I hope yours do to! (Including table football, piano and board games) The playroom / games room doubles as a fifth bedroom and also has its own shower room, toilet and basin which can be exclusively used by guests sleeping in that area. This room has double glass patio doors which allows direct access to the garden.
Beautiful Gardens of Strathendrick
Our substantial private gardens feature an orchard, a cherry tree, apple trees and plum. We have exclusive access to a fast flowing stream travelling the length of the garden, flowing sedately in the quiet months but it can change rapidly to snarling rapids after a seasonal downpour. (Please be aware of the power of the river, particularly with children if it has been raining hard). We offer al fresco dining with BBQ facilities and Italian designed dining table and chairs all reached through either the main door or using the French Doors of the main lounge which access the terrace.
We have in situ a large trampoline for “anyone” with an appetite to bounce. This is not solely just for the kids and can be great fun. We also have a double swing area built from logs; the area is covered entirely in safety bark providing a safe area for you and your kids to have fun in the fresh air. You can play hide and seek, climb, play football and sledge down the hill in winter. With trees and bushes everywhere, a huge lawn and a little imagination, you just can’t go wrong!
Whether you are looking for a romantic break, action packed activity holiday or family holiday, Strathendrick House will not disappoint!
