The Buchanhaven Heritage Centre is set within the former village primary school built in 1850 which stands within the conservation area of Buchanhaven.
Primarily set up to safeguard the heritage of the fishing village established in 1760 by the then landowner Ferguson of Pitfour, the Centre is now the focal point for change within the area.
Providing a wide range of exhibitions on subjects ranging from the fishing community to the industries in the area and family history to WWI there is always something of interest for the visitor.
In addition the Centre supports a range of evening classes from knitting and crochet to a camera club along with art and dance classes, all of which supports intergenerational work and has significant numbers attending every week.
The Centre also sits near an historic harbour, built in 1850 which leads along a beautiful promenade to the Craigewan Dunes an unspoiled natural beach that stretches for miles.
The promenade is well used by walkers, joggers, cyclists and photographers and is the location of the annual Buchanhaven Gala Day and other events such as the recently formed music festival.
Wildlife is in abundance and pods of dolphins are often seen just off the coast.
During the summer months watch the small boats fishing just off the coast, a great way to sit and enjoy those fish and chips
