Easdale

Seashore Foraging Foray

Discover what flora and fauna calls our seashore home and learn all about seaweed, which ones are the tastiest and get ideas on how to cook with our edible species. Generally 2h long but bespoke tours available!

Eating seaweed has been making a cultural comeback in the UK and the west coast of Scotland has some of the nicest waters and best selection of our native edible species. The seashore of ARgyll and the islands are some of the most beautiful shores in world, the perfect place to come and learn about not just seaweeds but about our seashore, find out what else calls it home, why sustainable use of our coastline is important and also get a tasty treat at the end of the day. Duncan is a marine biologist and has worked as a wildlife guide and in the aquaculture industry including seaweed cultivation and started Slate Islands Seaweed to spread understanding about seaweed and the seashore as well as his passion for the sea and all its denizens. Foraging forays are normally approximately 2 hours long and take place around the island of Easdale, 16 miles south of Oban. However, we're always happy to come out to a seashore with you, there is always something to find, to taste and to talk about, whether in Argyll or further afield. If interested please do enquire. There is a minimum age of 5 years old but exceptions can be made at parents discretion. Suitable clothing for the weather should be worn as should footwear suitable for going over rocks and for the odd splash in a rock pool should be worn i.e. wellington boots, wetsuit boots or good walking boots.
