What better way to visit a city than to combine food and sightseeing? Edinburgh has a lot to offer, from traditional Scottish cuisine to international foods from all around the world.

As an Italian living in the city, I’ve pulled together a list of my favourite places where you can find the best authentic Italian pizza in Edinburgh, friendly service and, if that’s not enough, things to see and do nearby. Keep reading to find out more about these delicious independent pizzerias!

  1. Salerno Pizza Édimbourg

    Pizzeria 1926 offers pizza and service in true Neapolitan style. With frequent pizza specials on their daily menu, this pizzeria won’t disappoint if you’re looking for true Neapolitan pizza.

    What makes it so special?

    Do you know all the Napoli players? Don’t worry, you’ll learn them all – every pizza here has been named after one of the players! Napoli, Maradona and Pizza, that’s the order of things according to Pizzeria 1926.

    What is there to do nearby?

    Spend an evening at the nearby Fountain Park after eating a delicious pizza. You’ll be able to find a movie theatre, bowling alley, laser tag, mini golf and trampolines, as well as other restaurants for a late-night snack!

  5. Matto Pizza Meadowbank and Morningside

    With two pizzerias in Morningside and Meadowbank, Matto Pizza is dedicated to the art and craft of true Neapolitan pizza. All of their pizzas are slow-cooked in a wood-fired oven at 500 degrees for 60 seconds or less.

    Matto Pizza has 16 pizzas on the menu, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, too. Don’t forget to try their “Matto crema e amarena,” a Neapolitan babá filled with cream and decorated with black cherries.

    What is there to do nearby?

    If you’re in the Morningside area, take a stroll down this delightful street in south Edinburgh where you can browse through a variety of independent stores. Or, if you’re near Meadowbank, grab a takeaway pizza and enjoy it at sunset on the hills of Arthur’s Seat.

  6. Pizza Geeks The Shore, Leith

    If you’re into the world of video games, cartoons, movies and everything in between, then Pizza Geeks is the place for you! With pizza names based on their favourite video games and cartoons, make sure you try their famous filled-dough balls.

    Make sure to also check out their brand-new pop-up experience on Easter Road. Inspired by 80s nostalgia, the venue encompasses everything from gaming to movies and gives a special nod to iconic 80s inspired shows like Stranger Things where the upside down meets the downright delicious.

    If you want to taste real Scottish flavours, don’t forget to try “The Braveheart,” “The Wildling” or “The Chorizard” pizzas, which mix Italian and Scottish flavours in a unique combination – only for the daredevils!

    Enjoy pizza with a sea view on the shores of the Water of Leith, or stroll through the Leith neighbourhood, ranked fourth on the list of the world’s most beautiful neighbourhoods in 2021, according to Time Out.
