Braehead Cottage is a traditional shepherd's cottage which stands quite alone among the Border hills, just off the A7 Carlisle-Edinburgh road, 10 miles north of Langholm, with a stand of trees behind, and lovely views over the valley on its other three sides. Inside its traditional exterior Braehead has received a complete makeover from its proud owners, and is as smart and comfortable as can be, with every modern convenience, kept snug and warm by double glazing, oil central heating and a wood-burning stove. Walkers can head off into the hills directly from the house, right over to romantic Hermitage Castle. Fishing is available nearby, and there is secure storage for bikes, with the nearest dedicated trails at Craik Forest near Hawick. Riding is available on the way to Selkirk. There is also sailing and wind surfing at lovely St Mary's Loch (24m).
