We love to offer you a very warm welcome any time of the year in our home Inver Park House which has a convenient location adjacent to the A9 just north of Dunbeath and 38 miles from John o' Groats, making it an ideal stop-over for tourists doing the North Coast 500 route, walkers and cyclists on the Lands' End to/from John o' Groats challenge, or those on their way to Orkney. It is also a useful and comfortable place to stay if you are working up here on a short contract.
From the breakfast room in the sun lounge at the front of the house there are stunning views over the sea and in the winter breakfast can accompany spectacular sunrises . . . in the middle of summer of course, it doesn't really get dark and you can easily take an after dinner walk in daylight or twilight and still see right across the Moray Firth.
The back of the house (with two of the guest bedrooms) looks out over our small touring caravan park, which makes both of these rooms extremely quiet, although actually there is very little noise through the night anywhere in the house, as the A9 here is also very quiet.
This makes a wonderful base for exploring the far north of Scotland, for walking, bird watching, fishing, cliff climbing, or simply relaxing in the peace and tranquillity where the loudest sounds are often the calls of curlews or oystercatchers. Inver Park House is accessed by an easy ramp from the level private parking area adjacent to the front porch. We have three large ensuite guest bedrooms, all on the ground floor.
Our ‘Traditional Double’ room, with its antique ash bedroom suite, has views out across the Moray Firth, and the ensuite has a bath and separate walk-in shower.
We have a 'family' bedroom, our ‘Peaches and Cream’ with a double and a single bed, with views over the caravan park. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath.
Our third room, the ‘Botanical Room’ is a 3 single bedded room, often let as a single or twin. It is especially suitable for disabled guests, with low-level light switch and a large wet room with level-entry shower area, shower seat and support rails.
All the rooms have tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities with guests supplied with fresh milk in neat vacuum flasks. All have new wall-mounted TVs with Freeview, and fast, fibre-optic Wifi so that guests can catch up on their emails or attend to business without difficulty. Each room also has a fridge.
I do not provide evening meals, but there is an excellent restaurant and bar 'The Bay Owl' just 400 yards down the road - easy walking distance, where Trevor and Irene offer a comprehensive menu and ever-changing 'specials' - no-one leaves them unsatisfied.
Breakfast can be served anytime between 7am and 9.30am and there is something to suit everyone:- a fresh cafetiere of coffee or a choice of teas including several fruit teas, orange juice, lots of white or brown toast, oatcakes, homemade preserves, yoghurt, a wide choice of breakfast cereals or porridge, fresh fruit, and I'll cook whatever you feel inclined for - tasty sausages from our local butcher, bacon, eggs from next door, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans . . . but, sorry, no black pudding or kippers! Vegetarian options are no problem.
After breakfast I'm happy for you to return to your room to lie 'tummy up' for a while if you need to . . . though of course you may have work to get to, or important cycling or walking commitments to get on with. If you are using this as a base for exploring the area, or are researching your ancestry, you are very welcome to come and go throughout the day. I may well be able to help you to plan your days to see the things you will most enjoy - do ask.
Inver Park House is adjacent to Inver Caravan Park which we also own and run. Sometimes we find that the more mature members of a family or group of friends relish the comfort of the bed and breakfast accommodation while the younger ones enjoy a holiday in their caravan, motor home or tent, or in one of our static holiday caravans, conveniently only a few steps away.
