'Oh. this is lovely!' That is the typical reaction of guests being shown into these luxury self-catering cottages. Everything speaks of quality: from the mahogany fourposter and sleigh beds to the variety of fixtures and fittings in the kitchens. Naturally, they have all been graded 'five stars' and that means they are viewed as 'exceptional,' 'world class'.
'Cottage' here doesn't tell the whole story, for all are spacious houses decorated in an elegant, country house style, blending the modern and traditional. Full, controllable central heating is included in the cost and every bedroom has its own bathroom en suite - those attached to the master bedrooms have powerful walk-in showers and spa baths for a rejuvenating 'massage' after a day walking the hills.
Bluebird, Finch, Heron and Mallard are particularly spacious and have either classical marble fireplaces with real-flame gas fires or period stone chimneypieces with electric focal-point fires to enhance the welcoming atmosphere in the evenings. Peacock even has a piano for singalongs.
Each superb cottage has its own fenced garden for the children and the dog to play in, or for the adults to have cocktails and barbecues. Guests have free access to the beautiful gardens of the mansion house, where many particularly enjoy feeding the ducks, geese and hens in Chickenopolis and taking dramatic pictures of the show-off peacocks, who thrive on the attention. There are striking views of Goatfell from several parts of the grounds. The backdrop is formed by the extensive Kilmichael woods.
These luxury houses offer the perfect venue for all occasions: honeymoons, romantic getaways, anniversaries and happy family holidays with grannie and the dog. We have had many famous and distinguished guests from the worlds of politics, entertainment and the aristocracy staying at Kilmichael and the grounds have even been used for glamorous fashion shoots.
