Old Hyndhope has one of the very loveliest situations in the Scottish Border County with wonderful sweeping views all around of the hills of the Ettrick Valley. You reach it by about half a mile of private road and it stands quite alone, about 400 yards from the nearest house which is completely out of site down the hill. You really get the impression that you are ‘monarch of all you survey’. There is parking right at the door and walks radiate in all directions. Your only visitors are likely to be sheep. Birds and the occasional deer. In summer, the grassy area across the drive in front of the cottage has been planted as a colourful wild flower meadow, with poppies, cornflowers etc making a spectacular display.
This is a house to which guests return year after year, delighted by its situation and cosy comfort and it is quite easy to understand why. They now have even more reason to do so, however for this traditional cottage has been the subject of considerable and very successful refurbishment. The welcoming sitting room, where you can spend cosy evenings in front of its open fire, now has French doors to a large, spectacular and beautifully furnished conservatory/dining room, where you can enjoy the views even when it may not be quite warm enough to sit outdoors.
