ABOUT THE ROYAL AN LOCHAN HOTEL
Overlooking the Kyles of Bute, the family-run Royal an Lochan hotel in Tighnabruaich dates back to 1865. Now a comfortable and welcoming eleven bedroom hotel, it is surrounded by stunning scenery and the sound of lapping waves.
Part of Argyll’s Secret Coast, the Royal an Lochan offers sea view rooms, lounges with open fires; superb seafood and is known for the best Scottish hospitality delivered by our excellent team.
One of the beauties of The Royal an Lochan’s location, right on the shore at Tighnabruaich, is the wildlife. The lounge, patio, breakfast dining room and restaurant all provide the opportunity to spot dolphins, otters, seals and the occasional Minke Whale. We have amazing coastal birdlife, and it’s quite possible you’ll have a grandstand seat to watch a flock of gannets diving for their dinner.
Just as important is the hospitable approach of our team to whom every guest is an individual deserving of the best treatment.
Luxurious bedrooms
Luxurious and individually decorated, all eleven bedrooms are ensuite. Sea view rooms look onto the Kyles of Bute and across to the Isle of Bute. The beds are wonderfully comfortable with luxurious cotton sheets, cosy duvets and deep, comfortable pillows.
All rooms feature tea and coffee-making facilities with homemade shortbread plus bathrobes, free WiFi, hairdryer.
Fresh Scottish seafood
With spectacular views of the Kyles of Bute, the Restaurant specialises in locally landed seafood. The kitchen uses the best fish and shellfish such as haddock and halibut, scallops, mussels, clams and langoustines sourced locally.
As an alternative to seafood, there is selection of chicken, duck, pork and beef dishes, as well as vegetarian and vegan options, all accompanied by seasonal vegetables.
The Shinty Bar serves a range of whisky, gins ales and lager. Inside the bar, there’s always a warm and friendly atmosphere, especially in the colder months when the wood burner runs at full throttle.
And where does the name of the bar come from? The walls are adorned with photos of the local Kyles Athletic Shinty team, one of the best Shinty teams in Scotland. The photos date back to 1901 and are displayed along with other Shinty memorabilia. The bar is both colourful and lively, especially if the team’s had a good win!
When the sun is shining, guests are welcome to eat outside and watch the yachts go by.
