WHAT TO DO IN THE AREAThis is "Monarch of the Glen" country, famous for its fine scenery and shinty. For those wishing to watch shinty, then games can be seen in the village at the Eilan. For golfers there is the excellent golf course in Newtonmore, and at Kingussie or Boat of Garten. The funicular railway is a superb way to enjoy the Cairngorms and in winter, there is fine skiing available. For activities, there are many outdoor centres or activity companies, from clay-pigeon shooting to rafting. The Laggan Wolftrax centre is perfect for mountain biking. The river Spey is nearby and permits are available locally for salmon and trout fishing. Dalwhinnie Distillery, is a must for all whisky enthusiasts. Aviemore has further excellent outdoor activity centres for water and hill based sports for all the family. For shopping, there is the internationally renowned House of Bruar.
