This visitor centre beside the world-famous Calanais Standing Stones is home to an exhibition, café and gift shop.
Located in the west coast of Lewis, the 5,000 year old Callanish Stones are famous all over the world.
The Calanais Standing Stones (or Callanish in its anglicised form) is a cruciform shaped stone circle, erected 5000 years and standing the elemental weather of the Outer Hebrides, there is much mystery surrounding their inception. Whilst it was most likely an astronomical observatory and a place of ritual activity, we invite you to visit us and uncover the mystery for yourself.
We are a charity in the Isle of Lewis, dedicated to the heritage and archaeology of Calanais and the Outer Hebrides. Supported by our 3 Star visitor experience, we welcome thousands of visitors each year to one of the best preserved prehistoric monuments in Europe.
