The majority of our animals are rescue. They have come in from abusive or unsuitable homes or have simply been abandoned. We specialise in giving these animals a second chance at life and a loving, forever home with us.
We have all sorts of exotic residents who call Fernvalley home. This includes meerkats, raccoon dogs, lizards, turtles, pygmy hedgehogs, snakes and many more!
The centre is open to the public throughout the year with daily talks and meet and greet sessions. Full opening times and ticket prices can be found on our website or on the Fernvalley Facebook page. (Please note that our hours differ during the summer/winter seasons)
We also offer experiences such as Birthday Parties, Keeper for the Day, animal adoptions and season tickets.
After you've had a busy day meeting all of our animals why not come and enjoy some time in our traditional country tearoom. Open independently from 10am serving light lunches, homemade cakes and traybakes, speciality teas and fresh coffee from the Orkney Roastery.
A cosy and friendly atmosphere with stunning sea views across the Gairsay Sound. We also have regular seal visitors to watch out for!
To find us follow signs from Kirkwall or Stromness towards Finstown. Take the turning in Finstown for "Tingwall Ferry" and follow these. We are the first right turn, just before the Tingwall Jetty.
Full directions can be found on our website. For GPS use postcode KW17 2HB. Please note however, this will take you just past us to the ferry. You should see our signage signalling right before you get this far.
So come take a walk on the wild side with us!
