Kinneff Old Church is where the Scottish Crown Jewels were hidden after they had been rescued from Dunnottar Castle during Oliver Cromwell's siege in 1652. The minister James Grainger and his wife Christian Fletcher devised the plan to smuggle them out of the castle right under the noses of the besieging forces.
They were buried in the Church for 9 years until the restitution of Charles ll.
Displays in the church show the history of the church and the Scottish Regalia from its conception to present day and full details of these are also available on the website www.kinneffoldchurch.com
The church is open daily and also contains details of graves in the churchyard and the history of the surrounding fishing villages.
