Our Highland Life

Discover your very own Highland life in this unique tour. Delve into Scotland’s history in castles and palaces, before learning what it is really like to live in the heart of our rugged landscape with a warm welcome from a wonderful local family.

This is only a suggested itinerary - we can easily change start and end points, number of days, and the specific route. Your tour is yours to customise as you wish!

Day 1

Starting in our iconic capital city, Edinburgh, we travel west to Stirling, where so many key moments in Scotland’s turbulent history were played out, especially during the Wars of Independence over 700 years ago. After walking in the footsteps of the ghosts of Robert the Bruce and William “Braveheart” Wallace, we end the day in the peace of the Trossachs in Scotland’s first National Park.

Overnight

Aberfoyle/Callander

Day 2

Starting the day with a trip to Scotland’s only “lake” and a boat trip to a fascinating but rarely visited Abbey, we travel north through Rob Roy country. A short hike to a stunning viewpoint, a delicious lunch in a renowned local restaurant, and a loch-side drive lead us to our extraordinary Highland home.

High up in the rugged Perthshire Highlands, our hosts welcome us to their remote hill farm for a unique homestay. Meet the farming family who have called this place home for decades, learn about the delights and challenges of sheep farming in such a remote part of the world. This evening take a stroll in the peaceful landscape, or simply relax far away from the streetlights, traffic, hustle and bustle of your normal daily life.

Overnight

Hill farm – “Shepherd’s Hut” glamping experience

Day 3

Leaving a little part of ourselves in our new Highland home, we head north along one of the most extraordinary though unexplored roads in Scotland with scenery that will take your breath away. We have options to hike up to special viewpoints, along glorious riverside woodland paths, or through a traditional highland town steeped in local history.

There will also be time to visit the local whisky distillery – or even an internationally renowned chocolatier! – before ending the day in a comfortable Highland hotel or bed & breakfast.

Overnight

Aberfeldy/Dunkeld

Day 4

On our final day we take the opportunity to wander through the streets of beautiful Dunkeld with its ancient riverside cathedral, part-ruined, but so central to Scotland’s religious past. The village was destroyed during the turbulence of the Jacobite Risings, but rose from the ashes to become one of the jewels in the crown of today’s grand tour of Scotland. As we head south, we visit Scone Palace, original home of the Stone of Destiny upon which all Scottish (and British) monarchs have been crowned for over 700 years. With Edinburgh in our sights again, what a way to end an extraordinary few days delving into the heart of Scotland!
