Welcome to our log house. We bought this place when we were still living in Glasgow (and anticipating staying) but sadly, we’ve had to move away. We loved this as a second home, a place to rest, a place to have friends, and for people to stay when we weren’t around. You’ll see evidence around that this is really still a kind of home to us, and we hope you enjoy staying here as well: the house, the village, the whole area around is very special to us, and we hope you can see why.
As a place to stay, from a weekend’s skiing or walking to a family summer holiday, it couldn’t be better located.
- It’s accessible: 2 hours from Glasgow, 1/2 hour less from Edinburgh, just 20 mins. off the A9
- It’s scenic: the valley of Strathardle is beautiful and peppered with historic remains; there’s a ruined castle visible across the valley, and the ghosts of old walls and farms can be seen when you walk up Glen Derby into the forest and heather moorlands beyond; the 60 mile Cateran Trail runs along the valley (you can join it 10 mins. down the hill from the house); the peaks of the Grampian Highlands are visible around (with snow on in season), and Glen Shee with its walking and skiing are a short drive away, Braemar and southern approaches to the Cairngorms a lovely drive beyond that.
- It’s convenient: the Nae Limits Log Cabin Hotel is close by for drinks and a bite to eat; the village of Kirkmichael is just down the hill with two pubs and a great little shop; and you’re just 20 mins. in either direction from Pitlochry or Blairgowrie for more services, so you don’t have to plan your holiday around long journeys to resupply with food & drink—it’s all on your doorstep.
- And it’s secluded: nights can be soundless (we’ve never slept better), and you’ll see deer, grouse and red squirrel (yes, they’re still around here) and much more in the woodland and moorland around.
