Craigend Farm Cottage is a traditional terraced farm cottage situated on the edge of the village of Stow in the Scottish Borders, only 25 south of Edinburgh. The cottage is owned and run by 2 sisters Jane and Angela.
The cottage accommodates 4 people comfortalbly with a double romm upstairs and a twin room downstairs. The cosy sitting room/dining room has an attractive stone fireplace and wood burning stove. It also includes a large wooden dining table that sits 6 people. The cottage has full cerntral heating and is double gleazed. The kitchen and bathrrom are very modern, well equipped and freshly decorated for this season. The spacious rear garden is ideal for BBQ's and has an attractive seating area. There is ample parking at the front of the cottage. Well behaved pets welcome.
Places of interest - The cottage is an ideal base to take in the rich tapestry of history, castles and stately homes of the Borders including Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. To the south of Stow lies the town of Galashiels whic hosts all the essiential facilities, including swimming pool and cinema. Those intersted in history can visit Melrose with it's Gothic style Abbey, which is thought to be the burial ground of Robert the Bruce. Melrose has the added attraction of the famous Greenyards rugby ground. Just 2 miles from Melrose is Abbotford House home of Sir Walter Scott. To the west near Innerleithen visit Traquair House, it is the oldest inhabited castle which operates it's own micro brewery. A must visit is Lauder which is a lovely drive over the Common (watch out for wandering sheep) and enjoy Thirlstane Castle and the coffee shops/galleries/pubs and hotels.
For the energetic, canoeing, horse riding and tennis are all available in the area, while the keen cyclists can enjoy the famous mountain bile course at Glentress near Peebles. There are many golf courses of all levels; at Melrose, lauder and St Boswells, the nearest being 6 miles away at Torwoodlee. Those who enjoy fishing have not only the the legendry River Tweed but a host of rivers and stcoked lochs. Keen walkers may wish to tackle part of the Southern Upland Way or St Cuthberts Way which starts in Melrose and takes you to Lindisfarne on the east coast.
