The Space
#5 is located on the second floor within a traditional, stone-built tenement, constructed circa 1900, and typically for this type and age of property, there is no elevator. Guests should be mindful that there are two sets of stairs (one 18 steps and the other 20 steps) to reach the apartment.
Fully modernised internally, with a keen eye on design, #5 is configured to sleep four guests as standard, within two bedrooms; one king size and one bunkbed room. An additional double sofa bed allows for flexible sleeping arrangements to be made for four people, or for an additional two guests.
While there is a vast range of places to eat within easy walking distance of #5, there may be times where you prefer eating in. We have incorporated a clever dining table within the feature wall in the lounge, which is large enough to comfortably seat four people.
We provide umbrella's for those odd days when it might rain, and would appreciate them being left in the apartment for the use of future guests.
There is a hairdryer in the master bedroom and we also provide universal adapters for use with your electrical devices. Again, we would appreciate these being left in the apartment at the end of your stay, for the use of future guests.
Guest Access
#5 is available for the exclusive use of our guests. In addition, there is a pretty, enclosed, well maintained garden to the rear of the building that is a quiet oasis for picnics, reading or just enjoying the sunshine.
Interaction with Guests
#5 standard check-in time is 15:00 (3pm), and check-out time is 11:00 (11am). If you require to check-in early or late check-out, please let us know and we will see what we can do to help.
The Neighbourhood
Newington is one of the more vibrant areas of Edinburgh. Nicolson and South Clerk Streets have a real feel of an old town High Street, with lots of quirky, independent shops alongside the more recognisable High Street names.
Round the corner from #5 is the historic Meadows, which remain one of the most important open spaces in Edinburgh and one of the most popular. There's something for everyone within the biggest play area in the city; large grassed areas, tennis courts, cafe and toilets.
As with most large cities, car parking space is a premium, and Edinburgh is no exception. Luckily, most of the must see sites are easily accessible from #5 on foot, or by one of the regular, convenient bus services. There are Park and Ride sites located at various locations on the outskirts of the city, again with regular bus services to and from the city, which means you can enjoy your trip without the worry of having to find parking. If you really need parking, there is an Easi Parks available, which is only 5 minutes walk from the apartment.
Getting Around
From the city centre (Waverley Station or St Andrew's Bus Station), #5 is easily reached by taxi, approximately £5. There are numerous buses from North Bridge (e.g. Lothian fare £1.50, and for the more energetic, #5 can be reach in about 20 minutes on foot.
If you are travelling by car, there is an affordable carpark in St. Leonards Street called Easi Parks. You can park your car for £8 all day from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday. Easi Parks is only 5 minutes walking distance from the apartment. If you required full 24 hours parking, there is an NCP carpark on St John's Hill (£15 for 24 hours), which is approximately a 10 minute walk. Parking outside the accommodation is free between 6.30pm to 8.30am Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sunday.
